Statement by U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission Chairman Dan DiLella on Planning the 250th Commemoration

“The U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission is comprised of 36 committed individuals from diverse backgrounds who are passionate and humbled by our charge to plan the commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding.  Every Commissioner recognizes the great privilege we have been given by Congress on behalf of this country, and the American people, to shape this historic event. We are united in our desire to bring together neighbors, communities, and the entire country in this effort as we reflect on our past while looking toward the future.

This is a tremendous opportunity that is also uniquely challenging. The Commission will not always agree but our differences will help shape a truly inclusive commemoration this country deserves. The past two years have been incredibly difficult, and yet during the health crisis we thoughtfully grew our infrastructure, introduced a number of exciting national initiatives and led a successful nationwide search for a new CEO who is providing a direction and vision to ensure our success. We have hit many roadblocks along the way, and there may be more, but we are on the right path to fulfill our sacred mission to honor this great country.”
