She joins the Foundation with more than 15 years of K-12 education experience, primarily in urban schools. Dr. Carey also spent three years researching achievement gaps in rural school districts, and served as program lead for the Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources program, where she facilitated diversity, equity, and inclusion training programs for teachers and administrators. A strong believer in giving back, Dr. Carey spent much of her time supporting first generation college students in the Early College and Career program.

Dr. Carey earned her doctorate in teacher education and master’s in African American and African studies from Michigan State University.
