Statement by A250 President & CEO Joseph Daniels on the 75th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson Integrating Major League Baseball

“Jackie Robinson spent his life breaking barriers and paving the way for all Americans, from becoming the first Black major leaguer in baseball to fighting for equality and against injustices on behalf of the NAACP. Today, we commemorate the 75th anniversary of Jackie breaking the color barrier in baseball and for being an enduring inspiration for our country and the world. America250 is honored to join Major League Baseball on this day to recognize Jackie in a special ceremony in New York City’s Times Square. We are also grateful to partner with the League in developing future programming because sports have a special way of bringing us together despite our differences. It’s what Jackie did on and off the field, opening up to everyone the game so many of us love and showing us what it means to be a great American.”
